Before and After

Laser or light energy is selectively absorbed by the melanin in hair follicles and converted to heat, diffusing to and injuring stem cells in the bulb and bulge. Effective hair reduction can only be achieved during the active growth phase and hair reduction is considered permanent when a significant amount of hair does not return for a period of time longer than the complete growth cycle. After a series of treatments, most hair is permanently removed. However, if hair does re-grow it will be finer and lighter than before.

Our office has the newest technology with state of the art equipment. The Sciton ClearScan laser uses ALX 755nm wavelength and YAG 1064nm wavelength allowing us to treat all skin types for hair reduction. ClearScan utilizes a Large Area Pattern Generator (LAPG) high-speed scanner and non-sequential energy delivery to achieve optimal clinical outcomes comfortably. In addition, the computer guided scanner can adjust from a single spot to a 30 mm x 30 mm scanned area to accommodate treatment locations from an upper lip to a back. This is in fact the only laser on the market that has a computer scanner. Uniform energy distribution results in even treatment to prevent central heat build-up highly reducing the chances of burns to the skin.

FAQ

Q: How long has laser technology been in use?
A: The laser was first used in medicine in 1961, nearly 50 years ago! Laser hair removal began about 15 years ago, but has advanced significantly in the past 8 - 10 years.

Q: How is laser hair removal different from electrolysis hair removal?
A: Laser hair removal is much faster. Electrolysis hair removal requires more time because it's a process that treats only one hair at a time, whereas laser hair removal treats many hairs per every laser pulse. Laser hair removal for an area like the underarms for example can be treated in only 2 minutes.

Q: What are the risks of Laser Hair Removal?
A: Laser hair removal is a lunch time procedure. There is no recovery time. Patients can return to work or play immediately. These lasers do not remove skin, so the risks are very low. As with any procedure, we have an informed consent that explains all the possible risks.

Q: How old do you have to be for laser hair removal?
A: There really is no age limit, but we never treat children. Young people that are not finished growing will develop new hair as they grow, and will require touch ups to maintain the results. We currently do not treat children under the age of 13. Older people that have gray and white hair will not respond to laser.

Q: Is it painful?
A: People have compared it to a rubber band snapping against the skin. Compared to waxing the treatment has very little discomfort. Everyone's pain tolerance is different. This is where the scanning technology and cooling device plays a huge role. Unlike any machine on the industry the ClearScan has a 250-watt integrated contact cooling device that controls skin temperature at any treatment speed. The computer scanning technology releases non-sequential delivery of the laser to reduce the pain that is often felt during most laser treatments. As you can see in the picture below the machine does not bombard one area with heat like other machines.
